Off The Grid

Off the grid…
Hey everyone! I know I have been off the grid for a while and I am so sorry! As you know it’s my senior year of high school and it has been busy and hectic to say the least! Where do I start, I was one of the cheer captains for my school’s football cheer squad, I am a member of student council, I am a Peer Minister at school, I’m in TASH a program through Planned Parenthood and a college prep program Strive through Washington University just to name a few things. I’ve also been finishing up college visits, college applications and searching for scholarships opportunities too, every day I have a to-do list with a goal of marking off as many tasks as possible!

While I have been off the grid as for as writing on my blog, I still try my best to post on my social media pages and re-share stories about bullying and neat and interesting articles about positive friendships. I’ve also had several speaking engagements with various youth groups sharing my story about being bullied and spreading more awareness about bullying. The last two groups that I spoke with were so interactive and engaging, you would be surprised to learn how many people are affected by bullying. No matter how you try to look at it, justify it, make sense of it, it’s just not right. No one wants anyone being mean to them, excluding them, teasing them, bullying them via social media, it’s all cruel. One thing that doesn’t fall off the grid are the numerous inbox messages that I receive from others asking for advice, tips, and suggestions on how to deal about bullying and on how to decide who would be a genuine, nice person to consider a friend. I also reach out to families who may have suffered a loss because of being bullied, when will this senseless mess stop, too many people are losing their lives.

Me and my parents are going out of town to Atlanta this upcoming weekend to visit some more colleges, I am looking forward to seeing friends that I have down there, and meeting the new prospective students on the college visits! I am working on selecting a person who has experienced being bullied or even the bully himself to give them something special! So if you know someone send them my way!

Some key takeaways that I have learned since my last writing:
-I will always continue to treat others how I want to be treated.
-I love working with the youth and hearing their stories it warms my heart because “bullying” is something that is swept under the rug.
-Bullying affects everyone we have all seen bullying in our recent polls between candidates and even on professional sports teams.
-People still don’t care about this mean epidemic until it hits close to home for them, but what ever happened to doing the right thing?

Stay strong & stay positive,
Courtney Jay 💜
